I remember calling the Peel Show ‘cos a long-forgotten US indie band I wrote to asked me to try to put them in touch. When I called, the assistant put John on during a record. He was friendly and interested, and thanked me for ringing in.

I feel a bit numb, and want to say it isn’t fair. I’m not ready not to have him around. It doesn’t seem right. My life was richer because of him, and it will be poorer in his absence. He will be missed.
