The whole fox hunting thing passes me by somewhat. I’ve never really thought about being a veggie - gagging on a cornish pastie did the thinking for me - and animal welfare issues aren’t very salient for me. I see it in the sort of terms that Monbiot does. At the same time, I guess I find the way that law is being enacted when the argument hasn’t been properly made somewhat worrying. If I had more time to read up, maybe I would discover that controlling the fox population more humanely is possible. Certainly, I find the glee with which fox hunters engage in their activity abhorrent, but if the argument cannot be made in terms of animal or human welfare terms, I don’t think that is reason enough to legislate against it.

Reading that, I realise my thinking on the matter is embarrassingly wooly, and I’ve been flippant. However, I do know that if I were to look into the welfare issue, it would be to try to justify my enmity towards the huntsmen.

I hate not having any time to think at the moment. Anyway, get Firefox.
