Met up with Alex G from the Naim Forum today, with the aim of of showing him a few of the local trails. Had a scary listen to the Nait1 versus the 72/hicap/180, which was a bit of an eye opener. We then got the bikes out. His Cove is stunning, with everything running smooth. Makes mine seem like a soggy mess in comparison. We started off with the trail up from Coldean to Stamner Park, where we sessioned a few of the trails. We then did the run up from the uni sports centre to the SDW, over Blackcap, and on to the chalk pits.

For someone who’s new to riding tougher stuff, Alex had his brave trousers on. He rode the chute into the pit, and got some decent air off the jump on the left hand side. Unfortunately, following a fair old size leap, he stacked it. He appears to have snapped a middle finger on his right hand, just beneath the knuckle. It looked gruesome, and we had to call an ambulance. He’s headed off to the Sussex County Hospital. Maybe if he is lucky, it will just be dislocated, but it didn’t look it.
Not sure I handled it as well as I’d have liked. It’s hard to judge how serious a situation is when it’s not you who is hurt. I remember when Toby S tore the skin of his palm off up at Leith Hill. We ended up taking him to the doctors’ surgery, and then left him in the van for a few hours. Poor bloke was in shock when we got back. This time I had the wherewithal to ask Alex whether an ambulance was in order. After the paramedics turned up, I got the idea to ring Joe H, who was kind enough to take me and the bikes back to Brighton on his 35 birthday. Props to him!
PS Joe is a ninja electrician, so anyone looking for a sparkie to do a trick multi-spur mains setup should give him a bell.
