February update

Well, a couple of bits of news from me. First up, Hugh from http://dutchbike.co.uk/ did some repairs on my bike, and passed on lots of juicy bakfietsen related gossip. I needed a new headset, a new fork (the thread was damaged), some adjustments to my drivetrain, and a new cover for good measure. As for the gossip, you’ll just have to buy something from him if you want to know… oh okay one thing. There is an Azor electric conversion coming. Hugh’s promised me a go when it arrives, so I’ll report back. He seems hopeful of good things. Secondly, we grabbed a Dahon D7HG. I’ll be using it for commuting when I don’t need to lug my son about, and occasionally in the front of the bakfiets when I can park the bakfiets wherever I am leaving my son, and have further to go.
So despite the cold weather, people have summoned up the enthusiasm to write stuff up:
- Henry@workcycles reports bakfietsen parking provision at Centraal Station.
- Nieuws Uit Amsterdam follows up the story and reports that Fietserbond (a Dutch cycling org) is debating the utility of a bakfietsen parking licence scheme.
- Full Hands is the blog of a family who have just got a new bakfiets.
- Amsterdamize has a lovely collection of cargo bike photos.
- Austin On Two Wheels has a review of the Madsen. Incidently, Practical Cycles may be getting some in to the UK soon.
Lastly, we’re hoping to move house soon. The change in circumstances will mean we’ll have one more bakfiets than we need. We’ll be selling the De Fietsfabriek 995, We’ve had it a year, and it’s been a great bike. They currently go for 1500 Euros, which is pretty scary at the current exchange rate. We’re open to offers.
